Web Notes
This work was first exhibited on August 29, 2008, on the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, as a window installation on the St. Joseph Street façade of the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans. The project consists of three panels presented in a specific sequence. Left to right, the images are by Debra Howell, Krista Jurisich and Jan Gilbert; they illustrate residential architectural ruin from the perspectives of an exterior doorway, a neighborhood street, and a detail of an exterior door. Text by Michele White runs through all three panels and reads: “Unless I remind myself to look, I don’t see the black flood lines anymore and it may be that we have to keep such marks visible and in tension with our daily lives in order to connect our histories to our possible future and try to fix things.”
