Eamon Michael Kelly (1936-2017) served as the president of Tulane University from 1981-98. He has been noted for his immense contributions to the institution’s financial stability and strong reputation, as well as his philanthropic work beyond Tulane. Kelly is pictured here with his wife Margaret, who he married in 1963. This painting was commissioned from New Orleans portrait artist Jean Seidenberg shortly after Kelly’s retirement from Tulane. The soft colors and casual poses that Seidenberg employs creates a mellow and thoughtful, yet still poignant, image of the beloved president.
