Web Notes
This work gives visibility to experiences of immigration and diaspora. Rosalva Garcia-Martinez is a
member of Las Hormigas Bordadoras women’s sewing collective based in the San Francisco de Tanivet village
of Oaxaca, Mexico. Her quilted patchwork pieces share personal stories of migration and respond to the
dynamics of family separation and economic hardship. Las Hormigas’ work increases the collection’s
geographical representation of handcrafted textiles.
