Web Notes
Biloxi born Jess T. Dugan uses portraiture to encourage empathy and critical conversations around identity. By
focusing on expressions of love and nurture, their work brings visibility to queer family life and adds dimension
to how LGBTQ+ communities are represented in popular culture.
In this candid self-portrait, the artist affirms gender expansiveness in a paused moment of self-actualization.
An expression of peace fills their bare body, which is adorned by surgical scars and tattoos.
