Web Notes
Christian Dinh is inspired by Vietnamese American communities who settled after the fall of Saigon in 1975.
His vessels and sculptures are laden with reference to American consumer culture, particularly Vietnamese
run nail salons and restaurants which often start out as family businesses.
Have A Nice Day celebrates the visual communication strategies of first-generation entrepreneurs and
elevates the decorative practices of nail painting, wrapping, and bejeweling as a precious living artform. In this
work, red tipped fingernails adorn a pair of porcelain cast mannequin hands. They rest on a handmade cushion
crafted from a traditional silk brocade textile to signal wealth or special occasion
