True Grit: Seven Female Visionaries Before Feminism
Completed
Jan 8, 2004 – Feb 15, 2004
Painting, sculpture and drawing, 1951-1975, by seven female artists: Lee Bontecou, Louise Bourgeois, Jay DeFeo, Claire Falkenstein, Nancy Grossman, Louise Nevelson, and Nancy Spero. The exhibit surveyed the varied, seminal oeuvres of these artists from both coasts, all of whom were making radical art before the term “femininsm” had even entered the cultural vernacular.
