Capturing Southern Bohemia: Jack Robinson's New Orleans Photographs 1950-1955

Completed
Apr 6, 2006 – May 28, 2006
Capturing Southern Bohemia: Jack Robinson’s New Orleans Photographs, 1950-1955, a collection of one-hundred recently discovered portraits of mid-century New Orleans, was the gallery’s first exhibition following Hurricane Katrina. A student at Tulane from 1945 to 1947, Robinson became an internationally recognized photographer known for his pictures of celebrities, musicians, and fashion icons of the 1960s. Robinson’s talent was first evident in New Orleans where he experimented with light, texture, and mood to capture the French Quarter, Mardi Gras, and the city’s diverse populace.

Accompanying lecture by Sarah Wilkerson-Freeman, Curator of the exhibition and Professor of Art History, Arkansas State University.
