Trial By Fire: Glass as a Sculptural Medium

At a point in time when glass saw considerable growth as an artistic medium, especially in New Orleans, “Trial by Fire: Glass as a Sculptural Medium” sought to highlight the work of four nationally acclaimed glass artists from across the United States and the versatile possibilities of the medium. From Jon Clark’s abstracted forms and Howard Ben Tre’s minimalist monumental sculptures, to Robert Willson’s playful and gestural creations and Ruth King’s installation of glassworks and neon lights, the show offers a broad spectrum of glass sculpture. “Trial by Fire” was also accompanied by a number of glass demonstrations and symposium talks, which particularly sought to aid the students of Tulane’s own glass department. Displayed in conjunction with “The Mary and Gene Koss Collection”, curated by Sally Main.
Accompanying symposium included “Glass as a Sculptural Medium” featuring a discussion and debate with the exhibition artists and New York critic John Perreault.
