Kate Clark: Mysterious Presence

Completed
Jan 20, 2016 – Apr 10, 2016
NYC-based Kate Clark (1972- ) creates unsettling taxidermy sculptures (part human, part animal) representing exercises on the possibilities of portraiture. The mysterious characters strike a balance between seemingly disparate beings, bridging animal and human conditions. Clark’s works have been described as reflecting both the primeval—reminding us of the common origin of humans and animals—and the futuristic thus bringing to mind possible evolutions once different species mutate and develop. Similarly, her work comments on environmental issues as well as ethnological research.

Clark’s sculptures have been featured in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, New York Magazine, Art21:Blog, The Village Voice, PAPERmag, The Atlantic, NYArts, Huffington Post, Hi Fructose, the BBC World News Brazil, Hey! Magazine, Time Out, ID Paris, Cool Hunting, Wallpaper, and many other publications. Kate’s work is the cover image for art ltd. magazine, November/December 2014.

This is Kate Clark first solo museum exhibition.
