Anna "Fanny" Frances Connor Simpson

Anna Frances “Fanny” Connor Simpson was one of the most recognized Newcomb pottery decorators. Born in New Orleans on August 14, 1880, Simpson received a Diploma in Art from Newcomb College in 1906, a member of the class that graduated Newcomb craftsmen Sadie Irvine, Cynthia Littlejohn, Juanita Mauras, and Gladys Randolph. After two years as a Graduate Art student, she joined her classmates in the Pottery enterprise from 1908 to 1929.
Also known as “Coonie”, Simpson participated in almost every Newcomb pottery exhibit in her lifetime. Her vase “Espanol” was awarded the silver medal offered by the San Antonio Art League for the best piece of pottery in the ninth annual exhibition of the Southern States Art League. A piece of her pottery and her embroidered table runners were exhibited, a well as a calendar she illustrated. An exhibition of her pottery at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston took place on June 26, 1930, six months after her death.
