Marie Desirée Roman was an artist and teacher at Newcomb College. Born June 12, 1867, Roman was a member of the first graduating class of H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College in 1890. Like her sister Amelie, Roman was one of the cornerstones of the Newcomb crafts program. She was a member of the Saturday Drawing class with her sister between 1885 and 1887. Roman was a Graduate Art student from 1896–1901, then as a member of the Pottery design class 1901–05. In 1904 she was awarded a scholarship to study at the Dow School in Ipswich, Massachusetts. In 1903, she was named Clerk of Pottery and Sales Agent. It was a position she held until her retirement in 1939. Marie Desirée Roman died on August 26, 1950 at Touro Infirmary after “an illness of several months.”
