Franklin Adams
American painter and sculptor
(1933 – 2008)
Franklin Adams was an American artist active in New Orleans. He was a multi-disciplined artist, working in painting, sculpture, illustration, design, and architecture.
Born 1933 in Florida, Adams earned a BA and MA from Florida State University, and was a Fulbright scholar in France. In 1958 he began working at Newcomb College in the art department, along side notable Louisiana artists Jim Steg and Ida Kohlmeyer. Adams later moved to the Tulane architecture department in 1978.
Adams was known throughout New Orleans for his paintings and sculptures, as well as his Mardi Gras posters, theater sets, and graphic design. He designed Mignon Faget’s logo, as well as THNOC’s.
Adams died in 2008, shortly before the opening of his retrospective exhibit at the Carroll Gallery at Tulane University.
