Esther Huger Elliott was born in Sewanee, Tennessee, matriculated in Saturday art on November 27, 1887. This course consisted of object drawing and cast drawing. In the printed catalog of 1890-91 she is listed in special art and in 1895 she was selected as one of the nine members of the first class in pottery decoration, most of whom were graduates of the normal classes of Newcomb Art School.
