Sherry Karver (b. 1965) is an Oakland based artist whose practice incorporates painting, photography, video and narrative text and to confront history, memory, surveillance and self-image, as well as distinctly American psychological issues connected to widespread mass media consumption: alienation, loneliness, loss of identity, and self-absorbed pre-occupations with how one is perceived by others. Her work has been exhibited nationally and is part of many private, corporate and public institutional collections. Karver earned an MFA (circa 1979) from Newcomb of Tulane University, and a BA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She also studied at Indiana University, Bloomington. She has taught art at many universities in the Bay Area as well as at Tulane.
