Douglas Bourgeois
United States
(1951 - )

Douglas Bourgeois is an American painter working in Louisiana. His work has been described as “visionary imagism” - a mix of funk, pop and neo-surrealist styles. Bourgeois’ highly detailed narrative paintings are hybrids of contrasting references that feature both celebrity and references to pop culture, as well as iconographic and religious imagery. Raised Catholic in rural Louisiana, Bourgeois studied in seminary before leaving to study art at LSU. He received his BFA in 1974. His work is in collections at the National Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C. , the Honolulu Museum of Art in Hawaii, the Detroit Institute of Arts in Michigan, the Frederick R. Weisman Collection in Los Angeles, and locally at the Historic New Orleans Collection, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and the Virlane Foundation Collection at K&B Plaza.
