Frederick J Brown

(Greensboro, GA, 1945 - 2012, Acottsdale, AZ)

American artist Frederick J Brown was surrounded by the rising Blues culture in Chicago’s South Side throughout his upbringing. Upon studying art at Southern Illinois University, Brown adopted the abstract expressionist tradition of the art department, creating grand abstractions throughout the 1970s. Throughout the following decade, Brown transitioned into painting portraits of notable figures in his life, often as depictions of religious scenes. Brown’s later works were often portrayals of jazz and blues musicians, for which he is most widely known.
