Rosalie Wiener was a Newcomb artist specializing in metalwork and jewelry in the art-deco style. Born Rosalie Mildred Roos on August 17, 1899 in “Opelousas Town,” St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, Wiener entered Newcomb College as a freshman in 1923–24 session. Married in her sophomore year, and a mother one year later, Wiener continued taking classes on a part-time basis but never graduated from the Art School, even though she completed every class offered in the program. At the 1930 Newcomb College graduation, she was awarded the Molley Palfrey prize in metalwork as the “most skillful of the undergraduates.” From 1930–38, she worked as a Pottery enterprise Art Craftsman. At the outbreak of World War II, Wiener became
a volunteer for the United States Navy, becoming one of ten female members of the Motor Corps service. She returned to Tulane in 1948 to study architecture.
Rosalie Mildred Roos Wiener died on December 1, 1982.
